The focus of Brentwood U3As is the pursuit of learning for fun not for qualifications. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 2.15 pm (except August and December), at the Shenfield Parish Hall, in Senfield, near Brentwood.
Meetings are held at 2.15 pm on the third Monday of each month (but not in August and December), at Shenfield Parish Hall, Shenfield. There is a constant waiting list of people wishing to join but as the capacity of the hall restricts the number of members that may attend the monthly meetings, the membership list has to remain closed.
A "B" membership was formed to relieve this situation and these new members may enjoy all the facilities on offer with the exception of attending the monthly meetings, but this too has been closed. Currently there are 332 members.
London Walks
London Walks were started by Harry Tait in 1992 and arranged by him for ten years. They have been a regular feature of Brentwood U3A activities since.
Interest Groups
Brentwood U3A has 47 active interest groups ranging from Astronomy to Yoga. The groups meet at various times and days with frequencies from once a week to once a month.
Functions
Brentwood U3A is extremely fortunate to have the services of Annette Dwyer-Joyce, who for many years as Social Secretary, has arranged a whole host of outings and activities.
Buddinng bards
In the March 2006 edition of the Newsletter an invitation was extended to the membership to submit poems, penned by them either in the past or in response to the invite, and the member with the winning entry will receive a "handsome" prize. It is hoped that the competition will be an annual event with submissions being received throughout the year. A panel of judges (the whole of the membership) will vote on the poems to select a winner.
